Stephen King, Clive Barker, James Herbert and China Mieville all have different writing styles. Pick up either of their books and that distinction is immediate.

Now imagine you could write a story as either of these authors and your readers couldn’t tell the difference.

That would be amazing, wouldn’t it? And what’s the distinction between all of them that sets them apart? If you read the title of this guest post then you will know the answer. That’s right, it’s writing style.

  1. Great post! I realize I do so much on my gut and don’t know squat about style… though I’m blesssed to teach it to young people, who luckily, know even less. Ha! I’m curious. Why did you have to write three genres at once? Was it a challenge? A contest?

    • Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ve been discovering all of these myself as I’ve been writing.

So the three genres were for as follows:

Horror: Short Story series I was working on.
      Sci-Fi: A writing challenge.
Children’s Book: My next published work *squeals with joy.
