Selfishly

Selfishly,

I follow/don’t follow politics.

Loving/Hating the prideful, money sucking tics,

Who care little for the people who put them in power,

When against them they should cower.

 

Selfishly,

I care/don’t care about celebrities,

What they had for lunch, what they wore, or their felonies,

When their fame is preceded by those very fans,

Who are quick to belittle them in their hands.

 

Selfishly,

I care/don’t care about the world,

Poverty, strife, fear, crime, and things furled,

When from birth I was taught to think of me first,

“Only I matter”, these words in my heart nursed.

 

So how can anything change,

When I/we live selfishly.
