NaNoWriMo – The plot thickens

NaNoWriMo

So that time of the year has finally come around and I find myself fighting against the rising tide of fear, apprehension, excitement and pressure. My mind is thoroughly convinced that I can write 50 000 words in 30 days (wait I thought it was 80 000???) and yet at the same time a strong doubt and fear renders me terror stricken.

Why?

Well it is a colosal project! Not only will I be attempting to write a signifiant amount of words each day (check my writing challenge to see how I failed to write a 1000 words a day – September Writing Challenge) but I will also be juggling other responisiblities including a 07:00AM  – 16:00PM job, church responsibilties and various othr aspects of life that come into play. Will I be able to really pull it off?

Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performancee

Planning is EVERYTHING. Without it, things could go awry very quickly and suddenly you find yourself rushing at the last minute trying to figure out how things got so hectic so quickly. So that is what I have done. I have on my board at work, a basic outline of my story ( yes I’m allowed to!  ) complete with key details that I can look at and expand further in my mind as I write. Also I have some time freed up on weekends where I can really pump the writing to cover any past days when I couldn’t get a solid hour or two’s worth of writing. As for the magazine I write for, I’m already working on my next article so I can get that out of the way and just pour into the game I have to review and get that out of the way then I really am free to write the novel out. Also Auburn is coming out this week (probably) so need to get that out of the way  but yeah apart from those responsibilties, I think its a definite step in the right direction.

So where to from here?

Well firstly the JYA update thing on the right will finally be updated. I’ll be in and around the NaNoWriMo world, probably hanging out on Twitter but more importantly I’ll be hacking away at my keyboard, looking to finish my first novel in what will be my most intense writing month. Your encouragement and prayers will be greatly appreciated!

  2. Uh oh, he’s at it again! Do you know how many words you average per hour?

    • Yes haha I think per hour I can average about 1000 words so I do two 1 hour sessions. I’m running behind though, I was planning to get 3000 words per day for the weekend. So I’m getting a’crackin right now…after replying to these comments 🙂
